Why did British want the Treaty ?
British wanted New Zealand to become part of its Empire.
In 1840 their where about 2000 Europeans and Pakeha living in New Zealand. A Lot of them were British. Even More people were considering Moving to New Zealand. They were asking for help to buy Land
The Missionary asked the British Government to be more involved in New Zealand as they Believed Maori Would be better protected from lawless Pakeha and illegal Land sales.

It was time, Maori Tribes were Fighting Fiercely Among themselves. Victoria, the Queen of England in her feelings to her affection toward the chief of the tribes of New Zealand.

For Ten Years The Missionary had try to Encourage the Maoris to form their own Independent Government and State.The Chief can not agree between Themselves. And in the end it became and evident That New Zealand Must Become a British Colony.
Reason Behind the Treaty ?
British wanted to Buy Land from Maori to add to their Empire. They wanted to use the Natural Resources of New Zealand Without much Conflict with the Maori.
